My name is Melania Morabito

Melania Morabito

Melania Morabito

I’m a 24-year-old girl from #Vibo #Valentia, a small province in #Calabria, #Italy. I’m a self-taught #photomanipulator, retoucher, graphic designer and #photographer.

How you come in painting/art field

I discovered #Photoshop when I was a child, I was just 8 years old. Through the years, I’ve been learning all its features and tools by myself. When I was 15 I discovered the Digital Art world from #deviantART. I was so fascinated by all those #photomanipulations and digital #paintings that I had to start getting into it. I tried to create something, by experimenting with some stock images and brushes. I loved it, so I kept experimenting and improving my skills as much as I could.

Which is your first art work

It was back in July 2008, its name was “Wait and Bleed”. A dark, slightly horror, #photomanipulation, representing a lady in a graveyard with some ghosts. I can’t help myself from laughing everytime I look at it, it’s not a really good #photomanipulation. It had no depth of field, useless shadows and incredibly fake blood splatters. I can’t believe I improved so much in these years.

How much time you spend in a week

Around 2-3 hours per day, depending by my other tasks. Sometimes even 4-5 hours in the weekends, when I’m home.

Tools of work

A MacPro with a HP IPS 24″ display when I’m home and a Macbook Pro when I’m outside, Photoshop CC and an old Wacom Wireless tablet (I’m so looking forward to change it with a newer one, my dream tablet is a CintiQ!).

Do you have qualified degree in relevant field?

I’ve got a diploma in Graphic Design in 2011, for attending a graphic designing high school. It learnt me the use of graphics in the advertising industry.

What you do other activities in daily life

I grew up with #videogames and I love to play everyday, I’m also a merchandise and games collector. I’m a cosplayer since 2012, I love #cosplaying videogames characters. I play airsoft every Sunday with my fiance. I love animals and I have a 11-month-old kitty named Crash, she keeps me happy everyday, even while working in front of my computer.

Currently are you working with any company or freelancing

I’ve been working for 5 years (I started as soon as I got my diploma) with a #photographer in my city, but this collaboration ended about a year ago. Since then, I’m a #freelance always looking for a stable job. In these years I also held some #Photoshop classes near my city, with 10+ students per class.

A message for newer designers/artists

Never stop challenging yourself, improve your skills and create what you love most. Follow tutorials, get inspired by everything and everyone, never give up at the first difficulty you encounter. Follow your dreams and believe in them!

Your inspired artists

I love Victoria Francés, Anne Stokes and many other digital artists on #deviantART, that pushed me to keep up with digital arts. I wouldn’t be there without them all.
