My name is Kim Lennard
In the art community I go by the name of kimsol. I am Australian, born and living on the east coast not far from Newcastle and its fantastic lifestyle and beaches.
How you come in painting/art field
I have always been interested in art from when I was a small girl. I attended an art school in the first few years after finishing high school; I loved using oil paints and the bigger the art piece the better. I have painted many wall murals, mostly interior but also some exterior. Needless to say most of the walls in my house are covered or have been covered in murals. I discovered digital art about 8 years ago but didn’t start experimenting with it until a year later. Since then I have been hooked, I love being able to have an art space that does not create a mess or need to be packed away. My focus now is combining #photomanipulation with #digital #painting.

Which is your first art work
My first artwork was on the back of the front door of my parent’s house, created with Lakeland pencils as I always got tins of these pencils for birthdays and Christmas. I was proud of my artwork particularly the colours I used, unfortunately my parents were not so happy!
How much time you spend in a week
This is variable, I do work full time (not in the art field) but I also have generous leave entitlements so I can have time off for commission work that has deadlines. When there is no commission work it might average to 8 hours per week – some weeks more, some weeks less.
Tools of work
Photoshop CS6 and intuous5 tablet
Do you have qualified degree in relevant field?
Certificate IV in Design, specialising in Graphic Design
What you do other activities in daily life
We love to travel as my husband is from the UK so we go to see his family at least once a year and take time to visit other countries while there. We always hire a narrow boat while in the UK, the last trip I did 186 locks in two weeks. Week to week at home I enjoy walking and riding my bike etc.
Currently are you working with any company or freelancing
I only do freelance work, most recently completing artwork for Aurealis (an Australian SF/fantasy magazine).
A message for newer designers/artists
First of all enjoy yourself and then like any new skill, practice, practice, practice. If you are on DeviantArt there are certain groups that you can get good experience with and feedback from. There are also many artists who are happy to provide information to support others so just ask.
Your inspired artists
There are so many different types of artists that inspire me however in #photomanipulation the artists on DeviantArt that consistently inspire me are Marcela Bolivar, cornacchia-art and Erik Shoemaker.
